After two consecutive winters of heavy demand, the road salt market in Ontario is entering the 2026–27 season with less inventory than we would normally like to see.
The 2025–26 winter demonstrated just how quickly supply can tighten. Higher snowfall, frequent storm events and increased demand put significant pressure on salt inventories across Ontario, with municipalities and private contractors both experiencing supply challenges.
Planning for this winter started for us back in the spring.
We have always believed in pre-stocking salt, but this year we have taken that approach even further. We have expanded our salt storage capacity by adding a second storage dome at our shop, allowing us to build a larger reserve before winter arrives.
For commercial snow and ice management, the lesson is simple:
**Winter preparedness doesn’t start when the first snowflake falls. It starts months earlier.**
We’re continuing to invest in storage, material supply and technology now so that when winter arrives, our focus can remain where it belongs — keeping our clients’ properties safe and operational.
